I would cut toast the same with a pancake so we have a round pancake here so. I again would just cut into finger-shaped links probably get a fourth piece out of this alright so there we have that once baby is nine months or older. You can switch over to bite-sized pieces as long as he or she has mastered the skill of chewing so in that case what we would do is.
We could take this finger-shaped size here this also allows the baby to have a grip onto the food. When they haven’t mastered the pincher grasp yet so it gives them a chance to be able to hold the food in their hand and then also take those appropriate sized bites. Once baby has mastered chewing then we can move into more bite-sized pieces things like apples or peaches or any round large shaped fruits.
You can just take a bite out of it and hand them to your baby hole and let them work on it, that way otherwise you just want to create the same finger shape sizes and cuts. So we want to avoid coin-shaped foods so when we have a cucumber here you don’t have to peel your cucumber. It strictly preferences I like to peel ours so the rule of thumb here is if you can make the circle with your thumb and pointer finger if that object fits through that hole.
Then it is gonna be a choking hazard all right so these are this is the size that you want to avoid. Because when baby swallows that it could block that airway now if you have a slice. That is much larger so this is a little bit larger. I would still avoid this size for my baby just to err on the safe side. But what we would do is. I like to start out with more of a stick shape because again we want to go for that finger length size. So baby has a good grasp on the food so that’s the cut that. We have here this way again baby can hold the food and also take some bites this way coin shape versus. This shape definitely error on the side of this shape now this concerns me a little bit. I’m just a little bit uncomfortable with this size even though it’s not a coined shape. It still allows the baby to take a big bite so. I want to cut this just a little bit more this way it’s just not as thick and we do want to encourage baby to take bite sizes right.
Think about You baby Mouth Size
They’re learning how much they can fit in their mouth and how much they can manipulate, but we don’t want to have it again that coin-shaped or large size. That’s why I cut that down just a little bit more. Some moms are a little bit hesitant when it comes to lettuce just. Because I guess it can kind of get stuck in your the roof of your mouth or something like that also that reminds me bread that’s not toasted just be careful with that because sometimes. I mean you know how it is yourself if you take a bite of like a hamburger or something. Sometimes the bread gets stuck up at the top of your mouth and that’s gonna be hard for baby to get out.
I always toast our bread we don’t really have a lot of sandwiches, but if you are having a sub or something like that you’re sharing that with baby just be careful. Because again that break can get stuck to the roof of their mouth but anyways back to lettuce this is what I do for lettuce. If you’re concerned about the leafy part of lettuce then you can take the majority of that off like this and kind of just give your baby.
This harder part to gnaw on that way you’re not so concerned about the softer leafy side getting stuck. And you’re able to give baby something to chew on this is string cheese again anything circular. We want a quarter lengthwise so just going to cut this in half and now I have my two halves here. And then I’m gonna quarter it so now this would be perfect to give your baby. I am completely safe when it comes to shredded cheese there are absolutely no worries about shredded cheese. You can just put this on the baby’s plate or highchair tray and not worry about that at all carrots you do want to be really careful again.
We do have a circular shape so we’re gonna try our best to quarter them honestly. When it comes to things like this it’s just a little bit easier, in my opinion, to just avoid.

I don’t often eat a lot of raw carrots so I’m not too concerned about it. You know figuring out how to do this in an easier way but there it just took me a minute or two and again. Your baby’s not gonna eat that much so if I were having raw carrots with hummus or something. I would be completely comfortable giving these small sizes to baby if you’re having baby carrots. However, what I would do as personal preference is kind of mush them a little bit. Because if they’re cooked already then they’ll be nice and soft but you can kind of mush them down just a little bit and we’re not pureeing them or anything. But we’re kind of squishing them just a little bit so that they’re not in that coin shape this is an example. We had a family get-together and somebody brought over some melon balls so this is definitely something you want to avoid. Because that could easily get stuck a baby’s throat so what, I did for him. If you want to cut the banana-like this and then just kind of don’t go all the way through but you want to score the peel then you can peel this off like this now baby has a neat little handle to hold that banana. And he or she can munch on it this way in the case of meats I have a cooked chicken thigh here so again.

What I’m looking for is a finger-sized shape cut alright so this is what we’ve got and so. I would just continue to kind of work through this and then if you also had some shredded pieces you could also do that in the case of leftover steak. I do have a well-cooked steak here and I’m just going for a finger-sized strip of steak the baby will be able to gnaw on this.

This is just regular spaghetti once this is cooked there’s you there’s no need to cut it in half or anything like that. It’ll all be nice and soft so baby can eat that this does have a hole in it this. Pinay so you wouldn’t need to be worried about this and these pasta shapes are just as fine. When it comes to beans the less sodium is definitely going to be the route that you want to go these are very soft so. You shouldn’t worry about having any choking hazard with green beans with any type of round bean just like our blueberries.
You may want to squish those just a little bit just to make sure that they’re not that round shape for your package type foods these are just little mango chunks. These are so soft that I would not worry about baby choking at all now these crackers again. when I do my coin shape here there it is larger so I would feel at ease given just giving these whole crackers to the baby. Definitely be careful when it comes to sauces there can be hidden sodium hidden honey and different ingredients like that that can slip into the different types of sauces.
Especially if you’re out to eat it may be safer just to give your baby some vegetables. That you have with some meat and that type of thing so definitely just be on the read for that if you provide your baby the finger size shape foods and they take a bite out of that and now it’s broken into smaller pieces that are totally fine. Your baby is learning how to take those bite-sized chunks and manipulate those and then also just figure out how big of a bite they can handle.

They will be completely fine again as long as you’re cutting away from the circular shapes and coin shapes then you should be totally fine. You may have questions like what if the food. I’m offering my son or daughter they’re not interested in that or what do I do. If they have no interest in food at all the biggest thing to just remember is to keep offering to those foods.
If your baby seems to gravitate more towards carbs or proteins you. know it’s all gonna vary us they get a little bit older and experience different foods. Just keep offering and only offer what you are having at mealtime as well so you’ve heard about the parents that give. You know mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. And that’s the only thing their baby eats well this is something to kind of help avoid that you’re giving your baby all different types of variety of foods.
And you’re letting them explore all the different colors and textures and tastes so just continue to offer and your baby will eventually get it again. If you’re starting out at six months and your baby is not consuming anything. Don’t worry just keep offering eventually they will continue to take more and more in as they feel a little bit more comfortable chewing. And getting those textures and tastes and your baby will aggress the concept.
